Agege Sports Club Plans Anniversary Celebrations
Agege Sports Club, a family-friendly multi-sports organisation dedicated to promoting health and well-being among its members, is set to commemorate its 10th anniversary with a series of celebratory events.
The club’s Public Relations Officer, Remi Aboderin, told Tidesports source that the milestone occasion presents an opportunity to celebrate the foresight of the Board of Trustees, the passion and commitment of the Executive Committee, and the support of members both at home and in the diaspora.
“Over the years, we have remained true to our vision and mission of promoting wellness through sports by providing opportunities for people to engage in physical activities and encourage members to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle,” Aboderin said.
The President of the club, Stanley Adiele, expressed joy at seeing people from different ethnic backgrounds come together to form a strong bond of unity.
“This club is populated by friends who either grew up in Agege, stayed in Agege and its environs over the years, or who by friendship decided to associate themselves with their friends who are members of the club,” Adiele said.
Thus, it can be seen that the club is open to all responsble males and females who love sports and are passionate about healthy living, thus our slogan, ‘Wellness Through Sports.’”
The club’s Saturday Sports clinic, featuring aerobics, football, basketball, lawn tennis, and table tennis sessions, has become a major attraction for sports and fitness enthusiasts of all ages.
Activities planned for the 10th anniversary celebrations include a fitness walk, a health seminar at the host community’s Vetland Junior Grammar School, and visits to orphanages.
The week-long event will round off on October 26, with an anniversary luncheon to fete members, friends, and well-wishers. The occasion will also serve as a fundraiser for the development of a befitting complex that will serve as a centre for sports and recreational activities within the Orile Agege LCDA and surrounding communities.
Vice president of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), Chief Solomon Ogba, foremost Sports Marketer and founder of Okpekpe Road Race, Mike Itemuagbor and top Sports Journalist and Media Strategist, Mitchel Obi have lent their voices in support of the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF).
The personalities with backgrounds in sports administration, marketing and media spoke separately in commendation of the festival, an initiative of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) with Dunamis Icon as consultants.
“This is a positive addition to the evolving sports business ecosystem because it is not just a springboard for identifying talents, it also offers a platform to truly hone the skills of those already discovered”, remarked Obi, who served as Special Advisor to a former Sports Minister, late Anthony Ikhazabor.
He said the festival will be a flagship event in the region that would trigger interest in sports among the youths and people of the region.
Edo State-born Itemuagbor commended the NDDC for the decision to add sports in the list of their intervention projects in the region, adding that: “This speaks directly to the problem of youth restiveness which is of great concern to our people.”
Raphael Onyedika has now emerged as a major doubt for the Super Eagles’ must-win 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe later this month.
The midfielder was forced out early from last week’s league game against Standard Liege.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Al-Khalood defender, William Troost-Ekong, has shared his experience on the difficulties of winning the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) while describing it a must win trophy.
The former Watford FC defender has competed in the tournament three times but has yet to lift the trophy.
“I’ve been there three times now, bronze medal, silver medal, but I haven’t had the chance to win it. That remains my ultimate goal,” he told Tidesports source.
“It means so much to me and all the kids growing up in Africa and Nigeria.”
