Okowa Pledges Quality Education In Delta
The Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, says that his administration is committed to improving quality of education in the state.
The governor made the pledge at the Annual National Conference of the Nigerian Association of Teachers of Technology in Asaba.
He was represented by his Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Mr Mike Okeme.
The governor told the conference that the state government would refocus attention on schools curricula in response to the increasing complexity and challenge of the contemporary world of technology.
He said that emphasis would be laid on technical and vocational education that would empower people with the requisite knowledge and entrepreneurial skills for business, trade and commerce.
The National President of the association, Dr Matthew Ukpongson, called for diversification of the nation’s economy for growth and development.
The association president said the diversification would require a robust, strategic and market-responsive Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) system to succeed.
He said that when operational, the diversification would result to a development where students would be equipped with skills that would meet employers’ demands.
“We are living in a rapidly changing world and we are daily striving for new information, knowledge and ways of doing things.
“We are all expected to be life-long learners, continually adapting to change by acquiring new skills and new way of thinking.’’
