Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike (right), with Senator Lee Maeba, during the 50th birthday celebration of Senator Maeba in Lunwa community, Khana Local Government Area of the State on Saturday.
The Chairman, Care
taker Committee, Port Harcourt City Local Government, Rivers State, Sir Samuel Soni Ejekwu, has sympathised with the victims of the fire at Ogbuga Street, Orogbum Community who lost property worth millions of naira.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after visiting the scene of the inferno to ascertain the level of damage, the PHALGA boss said the council would initiate a meeting with the victims to cushion the effect of the incident.
“By my estimation, such inferno must have been ignited by fuel deposited in the residential areas, faulty electrical connections/appliances or other forms of explosives”, he said.
Sir Ejekwu appealed to residents of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area to be careful in their utilisation of inflammable and explosive items, especially during dry season to avoid a recurrence of the incident.
He used the opportunity to call on the people of the state to continue to support the present government in the state led by Chief Nyesom Wike, adding that the governor was committed to the development of the state.
