RSG Withholds Amnesty In Gokana, Tai …Gives 7-Day Ultimatum
The Rivers State Government Amnesty Committee has denied the people of Gokana the Amnesty programme as repentant cultists and criminal gangs refused to surrender their arms to embrace the programme.
The Amnesty committee expressed disappointment over the number of arms surrendered by the criminal and cult gangs and none of the guns were functional. The committee was however, pleased with the attitude of traditional rulers who showed interest in the efforts of the government on the amnesty programme.
The chairman of the committee, Ken. Chindah however gave the unrepentant criminals one more week within which to surrender their arms and embrace the programme and called on the paramount rulers to identify with the government as it would no longer be business as usual on their next visit to Gokana.
On his part, the secretary to the state government, Mr Kenenth Kobani advised cultists and criminals in the area to fully embrace the amnesty and surrendered their arms noting that no one is above the law.
Earlier, the Chairman Caretaker Committee, Gokana Local Government Area, Luwii Awara had appealed to the youth, cultists and criminal groups in the area to submit their arms and ammunitions to the amnesty committee, adding that he would go after all those that refused to do so.
Also in Tai Local Government Area, the amnesty programme was turned down as the number of weapons returned to the committee was short of expectation.
The socio-cultural apex body, KAGOTE, The Tide reports has appealed to cultists in Ogoni to support Governor Wike by embracing the amnesty programme wholeheartedly just as an ex-gang leader in the area, Ankor Era condemned the attitude of the unrepentant cultists, saying “Ogoni’s are not sincere with the amnesty programme”.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Amnesty Programmem Commitee has declared a gang leader, Samuel Ogosu wanted, said its chairman, Ken Chindah, who also gave cultists in Tai seven days within which to decide on embracing the programme or face the wrath of government.
