Bayelsa Ex-Deputy Gov, Others Decamp To Labour Party
The immediate past Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state, Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi, who was on Sunday barred from partaking in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries held in Yenagoa, has carried out his promise to dump the party.
Ebebi, a governorship aspirant, was barred by the election panel following the omission of his name from the list of the cleared aspirants.
He protested his exclusion from the list, claiming that he was duly cleared by the Tunde Ogbeha panel instituted by the leadership of the party, adding that this necessitated his presence at the venue of the primaries.
The former Deputy Governor said he was leaving the PDP on which platform he was twice elected into the State House of Assembly and became Speaker twice, due to injustice meted out to him by the PDP.
“This kind of injustice that is happening in the PDP is unfortunate. Since the process has been fraudulent, we have no faith in what they have done so far. “We will stand up to make sure we fight this injustice, including lack of development and visionless leadership in our state under the platform of the Labour Party”, he said.
Ebebi is not, however, leaving the party alone, as all the as all the aspirants of elective positions at the state and federal levels from the state, who were schemed out, have also joined him.
Among them are serving Assembly members including Aaron Alokpa, Ekeremor constituency one, Ebiotu Seleketimibi, Ekeremor constituency two and Dein Benadoumnene, Ekeremor constituency three.
The three lawmakers were said to have lost their returned ticket because of their failure to support the impeachment of Hon. Ebebi as deputy governor.
Also in the list of disenchanted members of PDP are Patterson Ogon, who is seeking the ticket of the Labour Party for Yenagoa Constituency one, which he lost as a PDP member to the incumbent legislator, Hon Alfred Egba.
Another prominent member of the ruling party that has decamped to the Labour Party is the former chairman of Brass Local Government Council and the Co-coordinator of Successful Motherhood Coalition of Bayelsa (SUMOCOB], Mrs Helen Bob, who was schemed out of the House of Representatives race for Brass\Nembe Federal Constituency.
As at last count, more than 65 members of PDP stalwarts have left the party to seek their fortunes in other parties.
