Monarch Lauds Women Over Community Dev
The paramount ruler of Ogbakiri (Wezina) Community in Emohua Local Government Area Rivers State, Eze Ferdinand Mekwa Eleni Ekenta XIII has lauded the efforts of women of the community in restoring lasting peace in the area and contributing to the development of the community.
Eze Ekenta XIII made the commendation at the coronation ceremony of Madam Princess Fester Ikiri Agbagbuo as the Adna Ekenta IX of Ogbakiri clan last Saturday, at Oduoha Ogbakiri.
He recalled the crucial role the women of the community played during and after the Ogbakiri crisis, especially in the areas of peace making and infrastructural development.
The Ogbakiri monarch ,who described the ceremony as historic, explained that the position of Adna Ekenta was exclusively reserved for the oldest princess and direct descendant of Eleni Ekenta dynasty in Oduoha Ogbakiri (Wezina) no matter where she is married to.
The traditional ruler, however, called on Ogbakiri women to continue to be a source of instrument in repositioning the socio-economic and political development of their areas.
Also speaking the chairman, Oduoha Ogbakiri Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr. Chijioke Eme described the new Adna Ekenta as a woman of destiny and very rare qualities whose birth was significant and well celebrated by the entire community.
He noted that Madam Princess Agbagbuo aged 120 is the oldest woman in Ogbakiri clan, noting that her longetivity is a source of pride to the entire community and her leadership qualities, an inspiration to the women folk.
The CDC chairman called on women to continue to rally round the centenarian in her efforts to move the community to greater heights. He commended them for building a community market of Rumuoro among other self help projects.
Responding, the Adna Ekenta IX Madam Agbagbuo who is also the head of women of Anglican Church Oduoha Ogbakiri expressed gratitude to God for gift of old age and good health.
She charged the women to always preach peace, tolerance and forgiveness in their various homes.
