Serve As Beacon Of Peace, Yoruba Community Charged
The President General of Yoruba Community in Rivers State, Chief Bright Alabi has tasked the newly inaugurated seven-member Caretaker Executive Committee in Bonny Local Government Area to serve as beacon of peace.
Alabi stated this while inaugurating a seven-member caretaker committee to run the affairs of the body in Bonny Local Government Area.
According to him, the Yorubas are a well-organised tribe and very peaceful wherever they are domiciled within and outside the South-West region, and the body in Bonny Island must continue to exhibit the virtues of respect, love, promote peaceful co-existence and serve as worthy ambassadors.
“There has never been any time in Rivers State that Yorubas as a community, become a security threat to the host community”, Alabi emphasized.
He explained that the Yoruba Community has lived and worked in the state with other Nigerians since the golden era of Railway, SCOA, Nigeria Tobacco Company (NTC), CFAO, UTC, NPA from 1910 till date; urging members of the community not to engage in activities that would bring the body into disrepute.
Alabi disclosed that the minor misunderstanding that engulfed the body in Bonny has been addressed, explaining that the newly inaugurated seven-member committee took effect from April 3, 2021, and futher charged them to build a virile Yoruba Community in Bonny Local Government Area.
The seven-member caretaker committee has Dr Bolaji Orabiyi as chairman; Elder Ahmed Sanyaolu, vice chairman; Elder Victor Oni, Secretary; and Elder Friday Idris, assistant secretary.
Others are Elder Waliu Ajala, public relations officer; Mr Samuel Mogbojuri, welfare officer; while Mr Ojo William will serve as treasurer.
Similarly, four elders were also appointed to constitute the Elders Council to offer advice to the Caretaker Committee.
They include Elder Shola Adebisi, Segun Akintola, Pastor Ayo Joseph, and Alhaji Hamsat Najimu Olaiya.
