Clergy Harps On Good Legacy In Office
Nigerians have been advised to leave positive legacy that will speak for them when they leave office.
The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, the Rev. Paul Emeka who stated this at the Weekend in Port Harcourt during the Dedication Service of the Rivers District Superintendent’s Official residence and launch of the District’s Magazine titled, “The Turning Point, said good legacy is a testimonial.
Professor Emeka observed that much to his disappointment , public office holders are concerned with the quest for inordinate ambition, which he described as transient, vanity and purposeless.
The General Superintendent said the unbridled tendencies to acquire wealth for selfish gains at the expense of the public is the bane of leadership at all tiers of government in Nigeria.
According to him, history is discriminatory as it is poised to reflect only the actions and inactions of a public officer and not what he would want the people to say or believe about him.
The cleric commended the Rivers District Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rev. Daddy Ibulubo whom he described as an achiever, for opting to carve a niche for himself by building a palatial official residence for the superintendent.
Prof. Emeka said only people who are committed to leave a trail despite daunting challenges are the heroes and giants of history and not those obsessed with materialism.
In his speech, the District Superintendent, Rivers District, Rev. Daddy Ibulubo said the completion of the official residence for the superintendent and the launch of the District’s magazine ended years of tenancy servitude and seeming neglect of the dividends of the mass media.
Dr. Ibulubo described the ceremony as historical, turning point and breaking of fallow grounds in the area of infrastructure and media concept.
He called for Pastors and members continued support to the goals of his administration and assured of the commitment of the presbytery to leave behind a rich legacy.
Earlier the chairman, Central Planning Committee, Rev. Clifford Sampson gave a historical profile of Rivers District, Assemblies of God Nigeria and described it as a mustard seed that has grown into a great branch today to mother seven other administrative entities.
In his reaction, the Editor of The Turning Point”, the District’s Magazine, Rev. Charles Benibo said the launch of the medium for the propagation of the gospel and programmes of the district is imperative as according to him, not only is the church today run in the media but a third of the world’s population are found in the media.
