Dame Jonathan Lauds ESI Programme
Nigerian First Lady,
Dame Patience Jonathan, has lauded the effort of a Non-Governmental Organisation, the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) for providing tuition free and quality kindergarten education.
Dame Jonathan made the commendation at the commissioning of a model nursery school built by the Empowerment Support Initiative at Ubima, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
She stated that the NGO founded by the wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has distinguished its service in the provision of quality nursery education.
Mrs Jonathan pledged her support towards the success of providing basic access to education. Assuring that “we will contribute and support this NGO because it is an NGO for everybody and we will make it achieve its vision for the children because if you train up a child in the way he/she should go, he/she will not depart from it”.
She vowed to use her privilege position to advance the socio-economic development of Rivers State. “I will not relent in any way to give support to the development of my people, because am always happy to identify with my people and get the best for them”.
In his speech, the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi emphasised the need for early childhood education to national development.
He restated his support for the early child programme, especially at the rural community and commended the First Lady for identifying with her people.
Earlier in the her speech, wife of the Rivers State and founder, ESI, Dame Judith Amaechi said the education intervention programme was initiated to complement the state government revolution in the education sector.
Dame Amaechi said that the ESI School was a transitional ground that prepares the children mentally and psychologically for the expectation and sustainability into model primary education by the state government. She added that 20 permanent schools have been built in several communities in the state and urged stakeholders to support the scheme in the interest of the children.
Mrs Amaechi further conducted the First Lady round the facility at the school and pledged her determination to site the ESI nursery school in 319 wards of Rivers State.
