Rivers Police Train Personnel On Riot Handling, Tactical Combat
The Rivers State Police Command has trained more of its personnel in riot handling and tactical combat readiness to strengthen their job performance in the line of duty in the State.
The three-week training is coming barely a month when the command also trained over 50 officers in arms handling to address the increasing wave in illegal arms discharged in the command .
Speaking at the brief parade exercise ceremony held at the Issac Boro Park in Port Harcourt, yesterday to herald the end of the three-week training exercise, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu said the three-week training had exposed the officers on how to combat riots and other societal crisis in the State.
CP Olatunji opined that with the training, the officers are ready to confront any riot and criminal activities that promote disorder and breakdown of law in the society.
He opined that the duty of the police is to maintain law and order in the society, adding that the police will respond swiftly to any crime on notice as they are battle ready.
“ They have been trained on how to handle riots and protests that are peaceful and even the ones that may portend danger to the police and members of the society. What we are witnessing today is the culmination of the three-week training of the police officers went through”.
“You are all aware that recently, the IGP inaugurated the training of the Special Force Unit in Abuja and directed all the State Commissioners of Police to follow suit in their commands”, he stated.
The state police command helmsman expressed happiness for the high performance exhibited by the officers who took part in the training, stressing that the men are now combat-ready to handle and arrest any eventuality across the State.
According to him, the training would help the command to reduce crimes and criminality to a barest minimum in the State and promised that the command through the state government and the IGP will provide the needed equipment to enhance their job delivery in the State.
CP Olatunji used the opportunity to allay the fears of members of the public on the misuse of the training opportunity by the police officers and assured them that human rights of every citizen will be protected.
“ We are going to ensure that the human rights of every citizen are protected and nobody will be harassed with the development of these skills,” he stated.
