Chiefs Council Donates Relief Items To Fire Victims
The Igwuruta Council of Chiefs has donated relief materials to victims of last months tanker fire incident that occurred in the area.
The relief materials comprise wrappers, and other forms of clothings of various sizes to the victims and their family members.
The Chief Council, led by the Nye we-Ali Igwuruta, Eze Samuel Wekhe on a condolence visit, said the council, in the spirit of good neighbourliness, deem it necessary to officially sympathize with victims of the unfortunate incident which took place on 17th March in which lives and properties were lost.
Nye We-Ali iguruta said, “We don’t care were you come from, be it Yoruba, Hausa, Ibo, as long as you live in Igwuruta, we consider you as our good neigbours and what affects you, affects us directly.
Stressing that the council came with open heart to donate gifts as a way of helping to resuscitate the victims and their businesses, he urged them not to think of parking away from the area because of the incident, and promised to continue to support the victims in whatever ways the council could.
Prof. Wekhe commended the Rivers State Government, National Emergency Management Agency other groups and corporate organizations that have showed concern to the victims, and enjoined others to rally round the victims with any encouragement that could help resuscitate them in this period of trials.
Another member of the Chief Council, Chief Godson Nlemogu urged the government to initiate soft loans for the victims to enable them recover from the devastating impact of the fire incident.
He explained that it was not the items donated to them that matters but the spirit in which the gifts were given, and appealed to them to be fair in sharing the items.
Reacting on behalf of the victims, Miss Chigozie Anyaegbu thanked the chiefs council for their show of love and concern.
Miss Anyaegbu, who was a food stuff trader, explained that it had been a difficult time for them as their family members were forced to leave apart because of the incident.
“A times, I sleep in the church, a times with some friends and some of my customers do come in with one assistance or the other,” she said.
She commended the Rivers State Government MEMA and all groups that have been expressing sympathy and encouragement, remarking that God would pay them back for all they have been doing for the fire victims.
