Rotary, RSSDA Partner On Science Centre
The Rotary Club of GRA District 9140 is partnering with the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) to establish the Albert Einstein Science challenge centre in Port Harcourt.
The centre which is to be sited at the Holy Rossary Secondary School would serve the whole of Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government areas.
The President, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA, Rotarian Virginia Major who spoke to newsmen during an inspection of the Holy Rossary Secondary School laboratory said that the club is partnering with the Rivers State Sustainable development Agency (RSSDA) to create opportunity for young people to realise their potentials through science.
Rotarian Major said that, the Catholic Archdiocese of Port Harcourt has also approved the use of its laboratory at the Holy Rossary Secondary School as the school is centrally located in Port Harcourt.
Also speaking, the head, Technical Services of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA), Mr. Mitchel Alamina said that Rotary Club of GRA had approached the agency for support in setting up the centre.
He said that the agency decided to assist the club after realizing that the centre will boost science education in the state.
The RSSDA Manager described the choice of Holy Rossary Secondary School as very appropriate in view of its location.
In his speech, the Director of Education, Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt, Rev. Father Chalres Agu said that the school will provide facilities for the hosting of the centre.
He said that the Catholic Church has always assisted government to bring up programmes for the improvement of the society.
Earlier, the Principal of Holy Rossary Secondary School, Port Harcourt, Mrs Ruth Osaze had thanked the club for the choice of the school, noting that it will help to boost the school’s image.
