Delta To Demolish Structures On Water Channels
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, said government would not rescind its decision to pull down structures built on water channels in the state.
The governor also said that government officials who issued permit to build on water ways without investigation would be sanctioned.
Similarly, those who failed to get permit before building structures in any part of the state would face legal action.
The governor said this in Asaba during a Public Presentation of Report of the Technical Committee on Flood Impact Assessment, led by Prof Eric Arubaye, the Vice Chancellor, Delta State University, Abraka.
He said government would employ available tools to mitigate the impact of the flood in the state.
“We are going to remove structures on waterways, even if such structure is government owned.
“For anybody to put up a building, that person must have a building permit and anyone that violates the order will be sanctioned and any government official that gives a faulty permit will be sanctioned,’’ he said.
He said government’s intervention in Sapele and Warri by pulling down buildings along water ways might have been responsible for saving the towns from the recent flood.
