Embrace Amnesty, Christian Council Tells Militants
The Rivers State Chapter of the Christian Council of Ngeria (CCN), has urged militant youths in the Niger Delta to reciprocate federal government amnesty by putting an end to all forms of militancy in the region.
The chairman of the council, Rev. Benebo F. Fubura-Manuel who said this during formal handover ceremony by the previous executive also called on the government to revisit all previous recommendations on the development of the region.
Rev. Fubara-Manuel, also called for a co-ordinated approach by the Rivers State government in its fight against kidnapping in the state.
On the on-going strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) the CCN chairman urged for a compromise between the union and the government.
He also stressed the need for Christians to keep the course of righteousness and to remember that God is able to remember them.
“We recognise that we have come into office at a time in which the challenges to the Christian faith are enormous.
“Internally, we struggle with the challenge of unity with the need for the churches to recognize Christ in one another and to belong together in peace.”
He said that the new executive has resolved to make Christian unity its priority, to honour Christ in one another, to affirm our strengths and not weaknesses, and to highlight our common ideals and not differences.
The council also called for religious tolerance among all Nigerians.
