Clearing System Shareholders To Get N750m Dividend
The central security and clearing system Ltd, has declared a dividend payment of 15 kobo per share to shareholders. The total amount of N750 million would be paid to the shareholders from profit realised during the year ended December 31, 2008.
During the period under review, the CSCS group reported a turnover of N11.15 billion compared with N8.27 billion in 2007, representing an increase of 35 per cent. Profit after tax stood at N4.2 billion as against N3.58 billion which showed an increase of 15 per cent over what was realised in 2007.
Similarly, shareholders fund rose from 6.88 billion in 2007 to N10.61 billion in 2008. total assets also rose to N15.49 from N10 billion in 2007.
The chairman, Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke said “in view of the impressive results recorded by the company, the board is pleased to recommend the distribution of the sum of N750 million as dividends”.
It was gathered that the turnover of equity transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) last year stood at N2.08 trillion in 2007 representing an increase of 14.43 per cent. The transactions were successfully cleared and settled by the clearing House.
Okereke-Onyiuke said that the financial year started on a bad note with the Federal Government’s budget being signed into law in the fourth month of the year.
Besides, she added that, the global economic meltdown impacted on the company from the second quarter of the year with market capitalisation dropping sharply. She further stated that daily market equity transactions dropped from a daily average of N13 billion to as low as N2.5 billion, adding that despite the decline however, the market fundamental remained strong with improve corporate earnings.
