Bishop Charges Priests To Emulate Christ
The Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt, Most Reverend Camillus Achibong Etukudo has charged the eight newly ordained priests of the church to live life worthy of their calling by spreading the gospel as exemplified by Christ.
Bishop Etukudo who gave the charge in an interview with newsmen after the Ordination Mass at the Corpus Christi Cathedral reminded them that they can only grow and be respected when preachers of the gospel teach the truth about God.
According to the high priest, some preachers have failed in their responsibility of doing what they teach, pointing out that most of them preach one thing and do the contrary, a practice he described as ungodly.
“Henceforth, you must do what you teach and preach because it is ungodly to preach one thing and do another and you must lead a new life worthy of your call”, he stressed.
Congratulating the new priests for their elevation in Lord’s vineyard, the bishop said “the church has come of age so we must encourage the young ones to grow”.
Also interviewed, the state Commissioner for Rehabilitation and Social Welfare, Hon. Joe Poroma whose younger brother, Rev. Father Nubari Poroma was also ordained expressed gratitude on the ceremony, saying that it was the expectation of his family that one of them became a priest.
“The ordination of my younger brother as a priest is something the family has been expecting since the past seventy-one years and we are grateful to God”, he declared, adding that his father brought the Catholic to Ogoniland in 1952.
The President-General, Diocesan Council of Catholic Men’s Organisation, Chief Daniel Ozah urged the priests to work hard and use their new position to serve God in sincerity and honesty.
“We expect the priests to work hard as this is a clear opportunity for them to serve God and humanity”, he emphasized.
