Senator Builds N50m Health Centre
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Water, Sen. Bassey Ewa-Henshaw, says he has spent about N50 million to build a health centre in Ikot Edem Udu in Akpabuyo Local Government Area (L.G.A) of the state.
Ewa-Henshaw, who disclosed this in Calabar on Saturday at an interactive session with newsmen, said the project would be ready for inauguration this week.
The senator, representing Southern Senatorial District of Cross River, said he had set aside about N30.4 million to empower youths in the 76 wards of the senatorial district.
“We have tried to identify two people in each of the 76 wards who have genuine needs and desire to acquire vocational skills such as tailoring, hair-dressing, welding, aqua culture among others.
“I try as much as possible to encourage anyone who has ideas on how to set up something that he can do on a sustainable basis,” he said.
Ewa-Henshaw said that the criteria for selection were that the leaders in each ward would nominate “two people who are not members of the executive and who have genuine need to establish themselves.
He said the gesture was aimed at raising the standard of living of his people, adding that plans were ongoing to build five computer centres in Calabar South, Biase, Bakassi and Akpabuyo Local Government areas of the state.
