Council Empowers 405 Women, 601 Skills Acquisition Trainees
As part of efforts to alleviate poverty among the people of Ogu/Bolo local government area of Rivers State, the chairman, Hon Lawrence Abiebiari has empowered 405 women and youths with soft loans.
Besides the chairman presented the 601 graduands of the Skills Acquisition Programme sponsored by the council with starter-pacs to start their own businesses.
Speaking at the ceremony in Ogu, Hon Abiebiari said the exercise was to improve the standard of living of the people and also to put smiles on their faces.
He charged them to utilise the opportunity to better their lives and be good ambassadors of the local government area.
The council boss said the empowerment programme was predicated upon the visions of the wife of the Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, Pet Programme, Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) and promised to continue to support the scheme which was geared towards improving the lives of women and youths in the state.
Hon. Abiebiari also used the forum to commend Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his giant strides in transforming the state with his numerous road projects, modern schools, health centres among others, and called for support of the people of Ogu/Bolo local government area to the governor.
Also speaking the council secretary, Mr Ibiboyi Iyaye enjoined the beneficiaries to make good use of the council’s gesture and thanked all for their presence.
Computer sets, ovens, gas cylinders, hair dryers and sewing machines were distributed to the graduands of the Skills Acquisition Programme.
