No Factions In PDP-Ikuru …As Ibiamu Ikanya, Others Return To Party
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, has debunked insinuations of factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Andoni Local Government Area of the state.
Engr. Ikuru stated this at a meeting at Ngo, headquarters of the Andoni local government area where materials were distributed to PDP ward officials for the ongoing registration exercise.
The Deputy Governor dismissed rumours that the party was divided in the area, saying the calibre of personalities and large turn-out inspite of the heavy downpour spoke volumes of the oneness, unity of purpose and collective stance of the leadership of the party in the local government area. He noted that, “as you can see every notable political leader in Andoni, past and present, is here, this shows we are united and one in mind,” adding, “there are no gang ups, no factions.” He advised them to avoid being deceived into any alliance with any politician to destabilise the machinery of the party in the area.
Reiterating Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s directive to register everyone who is 18 years and above, Engr. Ikuru explained that the largeness and strength of the party would enhance its performance in next year’s polls, saying that any largesse, opportunities or benefits available could only be achieved by collective effort. Earlier, Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Mrs. Emilia Nte, had said that the re-registration exercise was to ensure the proper accreditation of members of the party, cautioning them against violence during the exercise.
Also speaking, the chairman of the party in the area, Mr. Victor Ere said that 300 registration cards were being given to each ward through the ward chairmen and Secretaries, who will be supervised by the ward councillors and two other elders of the party in the ward to ensure the proper registration of the members. Advising the party faithfuls in the area to eschew violence, Mr. Ere, who is a former deputy Mayor of Port Harcourt, said there were enough materials to register everyone with more materials to be released when the 300 were exhausted, saying, “don’t buy or sell the card; don’t hide it, and don’t hoard it. We want all members to be registered, if the 300 cards are exhausted, more will be released”.
Highlight of the event was the formal return to the PDP in the area by the leader of the Forum for Organised Opposition Political Parties (FOOPP) in the state and the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, alongside his supporters.
Dignitaries who attended the meeting include the legislator representing Andoni in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Charles Gogo Levi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Education, Hon. Sam Etetegwung, and Special Assistant to the Governor on 105 Health Centres Projects, Mr. Orom Nte Eroforokuma.
