Yenagoa Hosts Nigerian Content Consultative Forum
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has concluded plans to host the 2010 edition of the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum (NCCF) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
A statement in Abuja last Saturday by the Public Affairs Officer of the Board, Mr Obinna Ezeobi, said the event would hold between Nov. 29 and November 30.
According to the statement, the theme of the event is: “The Nigerian Content Act: Building Capacities and Enhancing Opportunities.”
It stated that the forum was the first edition after President Goodluck Jonathan signed the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act into law on April 22.
“NCCF 2010 will be the first Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition to be held in Bayelsa, the home state of Oloibiri, where commercial oil was first discovered in Nigeria in 1956,” the statement added.
It explained that the forum was in line with the Board’s mandate to open up the industry to Nigerians in its strategy of integrating oil producing communities into the operations of industry.
The community segment of the forum is targeted at Niger Delta residents.
It will help to interpret the provisions of the Nigerian Content Act to the people and discuss how small scale enterprises and residents of the region could key into the industry.
The statement quoted the Executive Secretary of the Board, Engr. Ernest Nwapa as saying that the conference would focus on sharing information on ways to build capacities.
It explained that building the capacities would enable Nigerians to take full advantage of opportunities available in the oil and gas industry through implementation of the Nigerian Content Act.
He expressed the hope that the event would provide the platform to facilitate the participation of stakeholders interested in the industry.
NCCF was first inaugurated in April 2005 by the Nigerian Content Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
It is a platform meant to provide effective collaboration between NNPC joint venture partners, international and indigenous oil companies, service providers, regulatory agencies and other key industry stakeholders on Nigerian Content initiatives.
The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke is expected to deliver the keynote address at the conference.
The programme also indicated that Bayelsa Governor, Timipre Sylva , would declare open the exhibition and community event.

Kalabari Media Forum Hails Recognition Of Dokubo Asari As Amayanabo
The Kalabari Media Forum has endorsed the recognition of Alabo, Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo Asari as the Amayanabo of Torusarama Piri and the historical relevance of the award.
A communique issued after the 2024 end of year summit of the Forum also commends the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminialaye Joseph Fubara for the recognition which they described as the best end of year gift to the Kalabari people.
The Communique signed by the Coordinator of the Forum, Alabo Dagogo Clinton and the Secretary, Mr. Harry Awolayeofori Macmorrison states that the gesture should make the Kalabari people to get back to the drawing board and consolidate on existing inter and intra communal peace within the region.
According to the statement, Torusarama Piri was the first place where the founding fathers of Kalabari converged from different cultures, tribes and backgrounds. Adding that those saying that the Kalabari people are not united should think again.
” As the different founding fathers were able to form a formidable ethnic nationality, modern day Kalabari should be able to sink the differences between the constituent communities and with other non-Kalabari speaking neighbours to achieve the needed internal cohesion for development”. It states.
The Forum further congratulated Alabo Asari Dokubo on his recognition and urged him to use the opportunity to do even more for the Kalabari people and Rivers State as a whole.
According to the statement, the Forum is happy with the recognition of Dokubo Asari not because he is one of the patrons of the Forum, but because he is about the most Kalabari-centric figure living, who has also committed enormous resources for the protection of the Kalabari people.
They urged the Kalabari Se Kobiri and the entire people of the ethnic nationality to work with Alabo Dokubo Asari and put to rest speculations about Kalabari that some persons have exploited against the interest of the Kalabari people over the years.
