The Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva midweek took stock of his performance so far and submitted that the Government has done very well in certain critical sectors such as Power, Health, Water and Agriculture.
Governor Sylva, who was addressing the State Executive Council meeting, said with the three turbine engines ready for installation, Bayelsa people will no longer have any problem with power in the sate for many years to come.
In the area of Health, the Governor said the State integrated health scheme, which will be capped with the commissioning of the Melford Okilo Memorial Hospital later this year, will be a source of envy to many.
Already he said, the new state-of-the-art Diete-Koki Memorial Hospital at Opolo, Yenagoa is now being used as a standard by even the federal government.
He noted that as far as the health sector in the state is concerned, the issue will be mostly management.
Governor Sylva enumerated the Government’s investments in the Agriculture sector to include purchase of fishing trawlers, rehabilitation and establishment of new rice farms, the Bayelsa oil palm and opening of several fish ponds, as well as produce bulk purchase companies.
He continued that the whole idea is to grow a new economy and also provide employment opportunities for the people of the state.
Observers, however, express the belief that the Governor may be econmical with the truth in some of the areas he mentioned, especial water and agriculture.
