Crime Reduction Excites Police Boss
Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sampson Wudah, says the police have been able to manage situations in the state, thereby reducing its crime rate drastically.
Wudah, who stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Liyel Imoke as the new state Commissioner of Police, however, stated that despite the achievements there are some challenges at hand.
He said the challeneges affect an effective execution of operations by the officers and men of the Police Force and listed the problems faced by the command to include logistics, communication, vehicles and gadgets. While requesting for the state’s assistance to enable it overcome its handicap, the commissioner, who disclosed that his command has a well detailed road map to ensure adequate peace and security in the state, presented a manual on the challenges it faces in the state to the governor.
Responding, Governor Imoke said with the establishment of an emergency response centre by the state government, it intends to partner with the police to reduce crime rate in the state to zero, saying that he would like to see some of the police facilities lying idle being put to use.
Imoke continued that a partnership between the police and the state was extremely important, saying that he would look into the request made by the commissioner, which would go a long way to ensure zero tolerance to crime, and also check smuggling and piracy.
The Governor hinged on the need for a strong partnership between the duo to tackle some of the challenges faced in the state, such as cultism and thuggery, which has become a challenge to the state as the April elections draw near.
