RSG To Dualise Sakpenwa-Kono Road
There are strong indications that the Rivers State Government may have commenced plans to dualise the Sakpenwa-Kono Road and upgrade some internal roads in Kono Town in Khana Local Government Area of the State.
Dropping the hint in a media interactive programme organised by Silverbird Communications in Port Harcourt over the weekend, the former Commissioner for Works, Hon. Dakuku Peterside stated that the project was among those slated to be commenced later in the year.
Peterside who was responding to questions stated that apart from major road projects in the city, the state government was also tackling the problem of road decay in the local areas.
He said most of the roads already awarded and executed include the internal roads in Bori, Ubima, Ahoada and some parts of Elele in Ikwere Local Government Area.
The former commissioner dismissed claims that most of the contracts awarded were yet to be executed, stating that more than half of the projects have either been completed or on the verge or completion.
On why the government was planning to dualise the Sakpenwa-Kono Road, Hon. Peterside explained that the route is a major connection to the hinterland, and that with the Ogoni/Andoni/Opobo Unity Road in progress, traffic would be huge on the road.
Speaking on his activities as Commissioner for Works, the Peoples Democratic Party House of Representatives candidate for Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal constituency submitted that all the contracts awarded during his tenure were transparent and duly scrutinisd by the due process unit.
He maintained that none of the contracts were executed by his company or cronnies, noting that those that got the contracts were indigenous firms capable of executing such projects.
Hon. Peterside said he had the mandate of his people to run for the House of Representative seat adding that his ambition was hinged on popular agenda.
The PDP House of Representative candidate decried the backwardness his constituency has suffered over the years, resulting in environmental degradation, unemployment and near absence of infrastructure in the area, and promised to promote developmental legislative agenda, capable of transforming the area and empowering the people.
