Amaechi Extols Late Tanee’s Virtues
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has described Late Chief Patrick Barizasi Tanee as a godly and humble man. The Governor made the assertion at the funeral service of Chief Tanee at Botem-Tai last Saturday in Tai Local Government Area.
Rt. Hon. Amaechi while expressing the condolences of his family and the state to the Tanee family especially, Hon. Felicia Tanee who is representing Tai Constituency in the State House of Assembly said her husband lived a worthy life.
He said, “with all the things that have been said here, it means your husband lived a worthy life”, adding that the late Tanee was blessed by God because he exceeded the biblical age of 70 years.
The Rivers State Chief Executive observed that life and death were gifts from God while stressing the need for people to live a transparent life, saying, “if you lived a life in such a way that your priests would not have to lie at your burial, then, you would be heading to heaven but if you lived a life that your priests would lie at your burial, then, you would be heading to hell”.
He prayed God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss and prayed that Hon. Tanee would live longer than her late husband in order to take care of the family.
Earlier, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree had expressed sadness, saying, Chief Tanee’s demise came at a time when the wife needed him most in the discharge of her duties as a legislator.
According to Rt. Hon. Otelemaba, “ the vacuum created by his exit would be hard to fill but as Christians, our hope is in God.”
He assured Hon. Tanee that the House would support her to overcome the painful loss of her husband, while praying God to rest the soul of the deceased in peace.
In his tribute, former member of the House of Assembly and close confident of Chief Tanee, Hon. John Bazia eulogized the late Tai elder stating that he was an enterprising man and community leader.
He also decribed the Late Tanee as a committed Christian who dedicated his life and family to God’s service.
Bazia said the biggest monument that would be erected in the late Chief’s memory would be to build a Church, which he spearheaded in his community.
In the same vein, Pastor B.F. Baege of the Apostolic Church Assembly 11 in Botem-Tai harped on the need for people to be close to God since death is no respecter of persons. “Jesus Christ is the only pathway to prepare for the final calling”, he added.
Expressing appreciation to those who attended the burial, Mr. Barizasi Tanee who spoke on behalf of the family thanked the Governor, members of the State Assembly, other dignitaries and the church as he wished them safe journey back home.
