Suspected Cable Vandals Remanded
A Magistrate Court in Woji Magisterial District Port Harcourt Local government area has remanded two suspected cable vandals in prison custody.
The cable vandals were Tuesday night arrested by men of the Rivers State Police Command who were on patrol along Woji area of Port Harcourt. The suspects are Messrs Tolu Ogunlana and Isah Patrick from Ogun and Adamawa States respectively.
A release signed by the Public Affairs Manager, Borikiri Business Unit of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, Mr. John Onyi said the vandals had already succeeded in removing about 24 metres of 500mm single core armoured cable at Elitor 111 500 KVA transformer at 1.30am before luck ran out on them.
The suspects who were later charged to court within Woji Magisterial District were remanded until October when the case will come up for further hearing.
Meanwhile, the Public Affairs Manager hinted that the spate of vandalism against PHCN installations has been on the increase since 2005 noting that about 400 transformers have been lost to these unwholesome acts within Port Harcourt metropolis.
He commended the Police for their efforts in safeguarding PHCN property and urged residents to assist in the fight.
