She said that though illiteracy and lack of awareness may be the bane of ICT in commerce among the rural populace, efforts should be intensified to mobilise them towards appreciating significance of this initiative.
In her words, “it is obvious that our mothers who are engaged in commerce in the village do not understand the significance of website in business, effort should be made to make them understand the advantage of exposing their products to the right prospect, at the right time, through the right medium”.
Mrs Amaechi disclosed that her NGO had already begun exploring the advantage of this facility in creating an employment data base for the youths in Rivers State.
Speaking earlier, the Country Manager, Google, Miss Juliet Ehimum said her company believed that power of internet would help small businesses to succeed.
She noted that over 43 million Nigerians now appreciated and used the internet, a situation that confers so much advantage.
She further stated that having a website would mean that customers could find local businesses and local information with ease.
She added that with the huge opportunity created by the absence of thousands of small business online, Google has stepped in to offer a respite and allay unnecessary fears through the getting Nigeria business on line which was expected to transform the Nigeria small and medium enterprise.
