Firms Tasked On Gas Flaring, Employment
Oil companies operating in Nigeria have again be reminded of the need to end gas flaring in their areas of operations as well as provide social infrastructural facilities and employment opportunities for youths in the areas.
The former Managing Director, IDSL Nigeria Limited, Engr. Samuel Ekiye said the move would go a long way to boosting the oil and gas industry as well as give the people a sense of belonging to Nigeria project.
Speaking at a workshop with the theme “Actuating
the Gas Upgrade Vision through Dialogue for Landlords and other Stakeholders in OML 58 Gas Upgrade Project in Ekpeye Kingdom, Ekiye also spoke of the need for landlords, host communities and operators in the oil industry to make proper use of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) through peaceful means.
He however called on the people of Ekpeye to cooperate with oil companies in their respective domains to ensure the provision of social amenities to oil bearing communities.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Elder Andrew Egbelu had lauded the current trend of dialogue among landlords, stakeholders and communities in Niger Delta through MoUs, saying it was a welcome development.
The Management of ZB Joint Venture Ltd, represented by the company’s Community Relations manager, Mr. Shadrack Chukwu, said his business organisation was committed in addressing issues of employment, subcontracts and capacity building toward ensuring a mutually beneficial relation.
In his speech, the managing Director, Orison Enterprises Nigeria, Mr. Temple O. Solomon who organised the workshop expressed the hope that both the landlords and stakeholders would use the forum to appreciate their strength and weaknesses while demanding for their rights with the confines of the law.
In a goodwill message, a director in the Rivers State Ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Nyize Emeyi thanked the organisers for the workshop and called for continuous cooperation between host communities and companies to ensure development of the area.
