Youths Drum Support For Subsidy Removal
President of the South-
South Youths Assembly, Mr. Felix Amadi (SSYA) has called on Nigerians to support the Federal Government’s decision to remove subsidy on fuel.
Amadi made the call in a communique at the end of a meeting with the executive of the SSYA, representing various states in the South-South Geo-political Zone on Monday in Port Harcourt.
Amadi said that “fuel subsidy removal is a problem we cannot run away from. If we shy away from it today, its negative economic realities will ruin our future.
“ We are left with the good option of supporting the Federal Government for this laudable decision, “ he said.
The youth president said he was convinced that subsidy removal would assist to build a strong economic base for the Federal Government’s desire to achieve its transformation agenda.
He explained that some companies had already indicated interest in building refineries in the country within the few days of fuel subsidy removal, adding that the move would create jobs for unemployed youths in the region and the country in general.
He said that subsidy removal was a step in the right direction and that the youth assembly was conscious of its effects on Nigerians.
He urged the government to make adequate and speedy delivery of its promised mass transit buses to support people.
“The government should also provide boats to assist marine transport users of the Nigerian populace who are faced with even worse fuel price hike because of their geographical location,” he said.
Amadi also urged Nigerians to take holistic observation of the economic gains, citing various telecommunications networks as coming up after deregulation of the telecoms sector.
“Now, even the common man can communicate on phone too,” he said.
