PCRC Partners Varsity On Training
The leadership of Police Community Relation’s Committee (PCRC) in Rivers State, says it is partnering with the Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies, of NOVENA University, Delta State in its training programme for members.
The chairman, PCRC in Rivers State, Hon. Austen Yong who disclosed this in an interview with The Tide inn Port Harcourt said this would be part of the training arrangements for improved performance of members.
Speaking after a retreat organised for the executive members of the body to evaluate members’ performances in the first quarter of this year, the chairman also disclosed that Safer School Initiative training for state-owned tertiary institutions in Rivers State would be organised this quarter of the year.
The programme, he explained was aimed at identifying causes of crime and disorder in school community, identify issues that could be termed security risk, ways of checking crime and other social vices and establish community safety partnership with relevant stakeholders amongst others.
Hon. Yong said training for members ought to be a continuous process but regretted that the last training was held eight years ago.
On how members have been embracing the training programme for the year, he said “the system can’t change overnight. In most organisations, people are complacent with the status quo, so introduction of changes are normally viewed with resistence but membes are being persuaded to accept positive changes for better service delivery in PCRC.”
He reiterated the firm determination of the PCRC to revive all levels of PCRC in the state.
