RSG Approves Expansion Of Traditional Rulers Secretariat
A N49 million contract to expand the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers Secretariat in Port Harcourt, has been approved by the State Governor Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
The outgone Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM. King T.J.T Princewill Amachree Xi disclosed this Friday at the official handover and inauguration of new council chairman, HRM King Godwins N.K Gininwa, Gbeneme Tai, in Port Harcourt.
King Amachree also disclosed that work on the council lodge and staff building was almost completed, adding that a mandate for the expansion of the council auditorium was given by the state government.
King Amachree appealed to the new chairman of the council to pursue vigorously the filling of vacant stools in the council, stating that the issue of vacant stools had been a barrier to the progress of the council in the state.
Speaking, a former chairman of the traditional rulers council, HRM. Robinson O. Robinson appealed to the new chairman to ensure that the issue of selective recognition of stools in the state was stopped.
He attributed problems of chieftaincy in some parts of the state to the problem of selective recognition of stools and delay in filling the vacant stools in the council.
HRM, Eze Robinson said recognition of stool should be handled by the Council of Traditional Rulers, which politicians handled political issues in the state.
He appealed to the new chairman, HRM, Gininwa to pilot the affairs of the council effectively without discrimination of chiefs in the council.
Eze Robinson promised the new chairman of the council, the support of the traditional rulers in the council to ensure that the vision of the council was realised.
In his speech, the new chairman of the council, King Godwins N.K. Gininwa assured the Council of Traditional Rulers of his preparedness to ensure value was added to the Monarch in the state.
He noted that the council was not a money making institution and vowed not to misuse the opportunity given him to serve.
