Perm Sec Blames Family Values’ Erosion For Societal Decadence
The Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Rivers State
Ministry of Justice, Mr. Rufus N. Godwins, has blamed the high level of moral
decadence in the society on the disintegration of the family.
Mr. Godwins said this in his paper entitles, “Legal Counsel
for Christians, Imperatives for Healthy /Better Family Relationship And
Conduct” at the 2012 Annual August Seminar of Faith Baptist Church, Port
Harcourt.
He said that many parents have abandoned their
responsibilities of giving their children proper upbringings that are inline
with Biblical principles.
The permanent
secretary noted that, this situation is now reflecting on the level of
lawlessness in the society, stressing that the society will only be better when
parents bring up their children in the ways of the Lord.
He emphasised the need for parents to be exemplary in their
conduct before their children while at the same time interceding for them.
Mr. Godwins stressed the need for people to be subject to
higher authorities by obeying laws and paying their taxes, and disclosed plans
by the government to harmonise all the taxes being paid in the state.
He listed some of the offences punishable by the Nigerian
law to include child abandonment human trafficking, ownership of brothels and
bigamy.
Mr. Godwins also urged children to obey their parents while
husband and wife should love themselves as the Lord has directed, and thanked
the churh for the programme which he described as timely.
Also speaking, Barrister Sunny Erekorsima urged the
participants to carry the message to their various homes, stressing that the
lecture, if fully imbibed will help many homes to seek the face of God in the
task of bringing up their children.
