Conference Tasks Church On Leadership
The church as a body of Christ has an important role to play
in enthroning a God-fearing leadership capable of transforming the country and
giving the people a new lease of life through genuine governance come 2015.
This assertion was made at the weekend in a conference
organized in Port Harcourt by the Concerned Ministers and Christian Forum
(CMCF), Nigeria for Christian politicians.
Delivering a keynote address titled “Christians and
Politics: The Nigerian Experience”, Reverend I.G. Bobmanuel identified lack of
transparency, insincerity and corruption as the major factor bedeviling the
genuine and good intentions of elected leaders in this country.
According to Rev. Bobmanuel, who was chairman at the
occasion, “because Nigeria does not have genuinely committed leaders to God, we
are having series of crisis”, adding “unless we have truely born-again
Christians in positions of trust, the people will not rejoice and bad
governance will continue to prevail.”
Also speaking, the Chairman, Police Community Relations
Committee (PCRC) in Rivers State, Mr Austin
Young stressed the need for Nigerians to enthrone God-fearing leaders in
2015, as according to him, leaders are being imposed on the people in Nigeria.
He observed that the church is a veritable ground for the
solution of the nation’s political and leadership problems, and encouraged the
founders of CMCF to continue to forge ahead in their efforts as God would one
day intervene to change present situation in the country.
In a goodwill message, Rev. Philemon Bulus from Nasarawa
State regretted that the crisis situation in the northern states has made it
difficult for Christians to carry out their duties of evangelism in the area,
pointing out that Christians being more populated in Nigeria have the
opportunity of producing majority of the leaders.
Earlier in his welcome address, the National President of
CMCF, Reverend Godswill Jumbo had said the body is vested with the
responsibility of encouraging and supporting Christians to contest and win
elections in 2015.
Said he: “We are all to participate in enhancing
enthusiastic and tremendous impact that will devoid our system of all social
vices, acrimony, religious bigotry and unprecedented upsurge of insecurity
which has crumbled our democratic transition.
