JTF Releases Two Impounded Trucks
The Joint Task Force (JTF), in the Niger Delta last Tuesday, released and handed over two trucks impounded for allegedly trans-loading illegal diesel to another truck.
The two trucks which were loaded with 66,000 litres of diesel, were said to have been impounded by members of JTF in a routine check in Okrika Local Government Area, Rivers State in November 2012.
Handing over the two trucks to their owners at a brief ceremony at Eleme, near IPMAN secretariat, the spokesman of the Joint Task Force, Lt-Col Onyema Nwachuckwu said the release of the trucks was in compliance with the directive of Army Headquarters, Abuja.
Represented by Flight Lieutenant Chris Erondu, he disclosed that men of the JTF impounded the trucks while on a routine check at Okrika in November last year.
According to him, the JTF officers suspected their actions and arrested the drivers and the trucks, including the products, adding that the natter was handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigations.
The JTF spokesman averred that the NSCDC absolved the owners of the trucks from the illegalities and liabilities, and recommended that the trucks be released to their owners.
He disclosed that it was in that direction that the owners applied to the Army headquarters for their trucks to be released.
Also speaking, counsel to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Barrister Thomas Ogbebor warned the owners of the trucks to advise their drivers to desist from further illegal activities, adding that the release of the trucks was a temporary measure.
He disclosed that further investigation on the trucks would be carried out, adding that if investigations reveal that the trucks were used for illegal bunkering in the past, they would be impounded.
Earlier in their separate speeches, the owners of the trucks, Mr Obioha Enekwa and Odika Hyacinth thanked the JTF for the release of their trucks, and promised that they would abide by all the agreements signed with the JTF.
They, however, denied that their trucks were arrested for bunkering.
