Royal Father Seeks TIMARIV Presence In Rukpokwu
The Paramount Ruler of Rukpokwu Town Council, Eze Collins Ogwu III, Nyewe-Eli has called on the Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV) to extend its services to the area.
Eze Ogwu made the call when officers of TIMARIV led by the zonal controller of the area, Mr Daniel Ihunwo paid him a courtesy visit in his palace at Rukpokwu in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area recently.
He said the request became necessary in order to enhance traffic flow on the Rukpokwu-Airport Road, so as to get rid of commercial vehicle operators using the road as a loading bay.
According to him, “Rukpokwu-Airport road is the gateway into and out of Port Harcourt by air through the International Airport and by road to other parts of the country. In view of this, the road should be easily accessible at all times.”
The Paramount Ruler commended the authority for their efforts in sanitising the roads in Port Harcourt and its environs through vigorous campaigns against wrong parking, and other traffic offences.
He also assured of assisting them mobilise all motorists in the area on the need to obey traffic rules and regulations, and enjoined them to keep up the spirit despite all odds.
Earlier, the zonal controller of the area, Mr Daniel Ihunwo said although the outfit has not deployed its officers to some parts of the State, the Rukpokwu-Airport road is a strategic axis in view of the fact that it is among the first area of contact by Nigerians and foreigners coming into the State through the Airport.
Mr Ihunwo said TIMARIV is embarking on enlightenment campaign to address and educate road users especially commercial vehicle operators on what constitute traffic offence as enshrined in the Rivers State Road Traffic Law No 6 of 2009, adding that they were in the Palace of the Paramount Ruler of Rukpokwu to solicit for his support so that the campaign would be a huge success.
He used the forum to appeal to the Paramount Ruler to provide a park for the commercial vehicle operators in the area to put an end to the springing up of illegal parks and indiscriminate parking on the road.
The zonal controller was accompanied by the Acting Head, Research, Media and Public Partnership, Mr Gift Egboh and the media officer, Mr Chinna Ogbuku.
