Award Winning Nollywood Movies Of All Times …The Awards, Production Cost

In our last edition we
brought to you some of the Evergreen block buster Nollywood movies of all time that are still making waves in the movie market. This is the concluding part of the report, enjoy it.
-Return of Jenifa:-
Director: O.J. Tee
Producer: Funke Akindele (Jenifa)
Starring: Anter Laniyan, Eldee, D-Don, Bankyw, Helen Paul Iyabo Ojo, Ireti Osa Yemi, Danrele Omanwunic, Yinka Quadiri and others.
Synopsis: Premiered in Lagos in 2011, the movie revolves around the life of the main character, Jenifa. In this movie, she registers to be part of a dancing competition, but when she was asked to undergo HIV test as part of the requirements for entry into the competition, she is unsure of her past exploits and flees.
Jenifa is later forced to withdraw from the competitions and society she once ruled and relocates to the village. Going back to the village however, does not stop her from being her crazy self, she learns that life is not all about being a big girl.

Porudction/Director: Kunle Afolayan
Starring: Ramsey Nouah, Kunle Afolayan, Omoni Oboli, Funlola Aofiyebi, Jide Kosoko, Wale Adeloayo, and others.
Synopsis: Released October 2009, while serving at a National Youth Service Camp, two friends find a mystical sculpture in an abandoned shrine in the forest, one of them decides to take it home. Unknown to them, the sculpture belongs to a Yoruba goddess, Araro Mire which bestows seven years of good luck on anyone who encounters it and after the first seven years, another seven years of bad lack follows.
The lives of the two friends began to change for good as they became successful and wealthy. However, after seven years, things start to change.
This movie gulped over N50 million, it received 10 nominations and won five awards at the African Academy movie Awards (AMAA) in 2010. This include Best Picture, Heart of African AMAA achievement awards in Cinematography and AMAA achievement awards in Visual effects.
Ijel The Journey

Starring: Genevieve Nnaji Odwys Garcia  Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Jeff Swarthout, Clem Ohaneze and Ulrich Que
Synopsis
Released July 30, 2010. It is a Nigerian-American drama Film, Genevieve (Chioma) travels from Nigeria to the United States to aid her sister Anya (Omotola) who is being charged with the mulder of three men including her own husband.
Ije is one of the highest grossing Nig erian movies, spending over N100 million in production cost. It recieved several nominations and awards induding the awards for Best Editing and The Treasure Coast International Film Festival and Best International Students Film at the Swanseu Bay Film Festival 2010.
Mirror Boy
Director: Obi Emelonye
Producer: Patrick Campbell
Starring: Genevieve Nnaji, Osita Iheme, Edward Ragutuzi and Fatima Jebbe.
Synopsis: Released January 17, 2011, Mirrow boy is a mystical journey through Africa, seen through the eyes of a 12 year old boy Tijan. After a land on street fight in which a local boy is hurt, Tijans mother decided to fake him back to their roots, the Gambia.
On their arrival in Banjul, Tijan encounters a strange apparition, a boy smiling at him in a mirrow and vanishing.
The award winning movie gulped over N70 million.
Mirrow Boy is a Nigerian Fantasy adventure drama. It was shot in England and the Gambia. It was the first African movie to premiere at the prestigious Empire Lecicester square which earned it loads of praises and achievements and placed the Nigerian movie industry on the world stage.
In Ghana, mirror boy reigned so well to become the highest selling movie ever in the Ghanaian Cinemas, within the first one week of its release, the award winning movie grossed over N12 million in Nigeria Cinemas.

My Relationship With Davido Beyond Money, Gossip -Cubana Chief Priest

Popular businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana Chief Priest, has said that his relationship with singer Davido is beyond money and gossip.
He stated this in a recent interview with BBC Igbo.
“Davido is my friend. He is my in-law; he married Chioma who is from Imo State where I hail from.
“So the relationship I have with Davido is beyond money and gossip,” he said.
DAILY POST reports that Chief Priest disclosed via his Instagram page that his outfit for the wedding of the singer, Davido and his wife, Chioma, in Lagos on Tuesday cost seven million Naira.
The socialite recently appreciated Davido for not “discarding” Chioma.
He stated that the DMW boss has made Imo State proud by choosing to marry from the state.

Simi Joins Kenya’s Anti-Tax Protests

Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has lent her voice to the ongoing anti-tax hike protests in Kenya.
The Tide’s source reports that Kenyan youths are marching against tax hike in widespread demonstrations tagged ‘RejectFinanceBill2024.’
Five people were shot dead and dozens wounded after police clashed with protesters who stormed the parliament building in Nairobi on Tuesday, according to Amnesty Kenya.
Reacting via her X handle on Tuesday night, Simi declared her support for the demonstrators.
She stated that “it is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights.”
The singer wrote, “I stand with the people of Kenya. It is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights. Godspeed and Strength. [Hash tag] RejectFinanceBill2024.”
In a series of other posts, she wrote: “Wow. When you’ve had enough, the fight is almost inevitable.
“African leaders- have not you done enough?
“I can’t wait for the day Africa is not a weapon fashioned against Africans. All of this amazing Black power and human resource, but the majority are not likely to thrive unless they run.”

Davido, Zlatan, Others In Attendance At Asake’s Atlanta Concert

Famous Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Davido was spotted among other top artistes at Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ tour concert in Atlanta, Georgia.
Asake’s performance at his sold-out show at the 17,000-capacity State Farm Arena in Atlanta began on August 16, 2024, and is set to run for 10 days.
In a trending video on social media, Davido appeared backstage with American rapper Quavo to support Asake during the live performance.
Other musicians in attendance included Nigerian hitmaker Zlatan and American rapper Russ Millions.
The Tide’s source reports that Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ tour is set to cover six U.S. cities, where he will headline notable venues including Madison Square Garden in New York, the Toyota Center in Houston, and the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
Asake’s tour comes just days after the release of his latest hit, ‘Lungu Boy,’ which features several superstars, including Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, Travis Scott and Brazilian singer Ludmilla.
‘Lungu Boy’ set a new record for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria, garnering 18.9 million streams in its opening week and breaking the previous record of 14.4 million streams held by Davido’s ‘Timeless.’
