Cleric Charges Rivers People To Trust In God
The people of Rivers
State have been charged to always put their trust in God and praying for peace in the state particularly in the face of the political crisis rocking the state.
General Overseer, Gateway International Church, Pastor George Izunwa made the call last Monday during a Special Thanksgiving and re-dedication services held at the Main Bowl of Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex, Port Harcourt.
Pastor Izunwa noted that when people seek the face of God with prayers in times of turbulence, they receive.
He advised political leaders in the country to do the right things to avoid the wrath of God who has power to cut their protection, stressing that no individual, no matter how highly placed is inevitable when it comes to leading his people.
Governor Rotimi Amaechi who took the first reading from Psalms 96:1-13 narrated that in all his travails, he had always drawn his strength from God.
The governor stated that he made three vows to God in his ambition to become governor – to serve God, to serve the poor and thirdly, to evangalise.
He explained that provision of model schools and primary health centres across the state, was aimed at bridging the gap between the rich and the poor such that world-class health services and education would not be the exclusive preserve of the rich in the society.
He however regretted the attitude of the Federal Government, which he said ceded 41 oil wells in Etche and Soku parts of Rivers State to Imo and Bayelsa States and challenged the people to vote out PDP from the centre during next elections in the interest of the state.
Governor Amaechi urged men of God to continue to pray against the plot of selfish politicians to diminish the fortunes and resources of the state.
He formally announced that January 27th of every year should be set aside for Special Thanksgiving to God and urged the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to Gazette the day to make it permanent.
General Overseer, Redemption Ministries, Rev. Steven Akinola offered special prayers and rededicated the state and its resources to God.
