NBA President Charges Lawyers On Judicial Reforms
The Nigerian Bar Asso
ciation (NBA) has urged lawyers to promote judicial reforms to stimulate sustainable development in the country.
Mr Okey Wali, the NBA President, made the call at the inauguration of an NBA branch in Igarra, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
Wali, who was represented by Ferdinand Orbih (SAN), said the promotion of judicial reforms would encourage investment friendly environment.
“Lawyers should be in the vanguard of judicial reforms in order to stimulate sustainable development,” he said emphasising that the branch was the only one approved of the over 50 branches that had applied.
He called on lawyers at Igarra to count themselves lucky for such development.
“I want members to work hard to ensure that NBA Akoko-Edo branch sustained the mandate of establishing a branch. The pioneer executive members should see themselves as servants to the people.’’
Wali also called on lawyers and the judges to work together in improving access to justice. I want the lawyers to cooperate with the judges in the area in order to promote the rule of law”, he said.
The chairman of the branch, Mr Joe Umakhikhe, thanked the president for creating the branch.
Umakhikhe promised that the branch would adhere to ethics and professionalism in order to move the association forward.
