NSCDC Threatens To Shut Erring Filling Stations
The Bayelsa State
Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), has threatened to shut down filling stations selling fuel above government pump price of N97 per litre.
The state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Desmond Agu, in a statement issued in Yenogoa, last Thursday said the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) above the official pump price of N97 is illegal.
“I wish to warn all petrol dealers in the state who still sell above the official pump price to stop or be arrested by the corps,” it said.
The statement also warned that the command would deal decisively with those still engaged in pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering in the creeks of the state.
It said the command was currently working with youths in the creeks of Southern Ijaw to combat the menace.
The corps appealed to youths in Nembe, Brass and Ekeremor local government areas to emulate Southern Ijaw youths and end the act.
The statement attributed the scarcity of petrol in the country to pipeline vandalism in the creeks.
Apart from the NNPC mega filling station in Yenagoa, both the major and independent petrol stations in the state sell the product for between N120 and N140 per litre.
