2015: Group Endorses Riverine Governor Of South East Extraction
As preparation for the 2015
general elections heightens across the state, Rivers Upland Patriotic Assembly (RUPA) has canvassed for a Rivers South East Ijaw for the governorship of Rivers State in 2015.
The group which said this in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt also pledged to mobilize its members across the upland local government areas to vote for an Ijaw governor of South East extraction.
It said that the Rivers South East Senatorial zone has remained the only zone that has not produced a governor for the state.
“It is a known fact that since the return of democracy in 1999, Rivers West Senatorial District produced Sir Dr. Peter Odili as the Governor of Rivers State (1999-2007) and the Rivers East Senatorial District, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
“To this end we of the Rivers Upland Patriotic Assembly are of the strong opinion that the Rivers South East Senatorial District qualifies and should be allowed to produce the Governor of Rivers State in 2015 in the spirit of truth, justice and equity” it said.
The release which was jointly singed by the National President, Joseph J. Agbo and Goodluck Alison the National Secretary, also said that the Riverine people of Ijaw extraction be given a slot this time around since the upland has produced the governor for four tenure of sixteen years.
“It is pertinent to state that size is not might, otherwise Bayelsa State could not have produced Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, nor would Okrika, Ndoni and Ubima have produced Rivers State Governors in the persons of Chief Rufus Ada George, Sir Dr Peter Odili and Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi respectively.
