HOS Assures Banks Of Conducive Environment
Banks operating in the
Rivers State Secretariat Complex have been assured of the cooperation of the State Government.
The Head of Service, Barr. Rufus Godwins, gave this assurance during a meeting with business owners in the State Secretariat Complex at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Head of Service.
Godwins said, the process of securing and repaying loans will henceforth involve the Accountant-General of the state, the Head of Service, Permanent Secretary, Establishments and the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the civil servants concerned.
This would enable the banks know the status of civil servants, who have benefited from the credit facilities to ensure effective recovery of loans granted them and to avert the risk of change of salary pay-points after taking the loans.
He advised the banks to inform the Head of Service and Permanent Secretary of any application for loan for civil servants before such loan is granted.
The Head of Service urged the banks to operate within the ambit of the rules governing loan facilities, stating that Permanent secretaries are exempted from being guarantors to loans by civil servants.
He appealed to them to be security conscious, stating that those coming into the Complex, should submit themselves to security checks and decried a situation where people come into the Secretariat Complex late in the night for banking transactions.
Earlier, Branch Manager of United Bank for Africa (UBA), State Secretariat Complex Branch, Mr. Christian Jaja, applauded the Rivers State civil servants as the best in terms of loan repayment in the country.
In his vote of thanks, Permanent Secretary (Special Duties), Sir Samuel Egbe, said the administration of Barr. Nyesom Wike had a new vision, and enjoined everyone in the secretariat complex to join hands with the Head of Service, to realise the vision.
