Pilgrims Board Calls For Sponsorship Of Pilgrimage
The Rivers State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, has called on individuals, government agencies, corporate bodies and churches capable of sponsoring themselves to this year’s holy pilgrimage to Israel to contact the board.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, Rivers State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mrs.Biobele Odesola, the board said, the call has become necessary in view of the need to assist the Rivers State Government which has over the years been sponorsing large number of Christian Pilgrims to the holy land.
According to the statement, “this clarion call is made in order to assist Rivers State Government, which has over the years been sponsoring the highest number of desiring Christians who perform the all-important spiritual exercise in the holy land”.
It would be recalled that Mrs Odesola had in her post inauguration speech harped on the need for Christians to use the annual pilgrimage to boost their spiritual wellbeing as well as cultivate love for one another.
According to her, it would be wrong for Christians to treat the exercise as tourism or social outing, adding that, the essence is for spiritual growth, peace and development of the state, the nation at large and our individual lives.
“There is no way a true Christian would travel to the holy land without getting a boost to his or her faith in Christ”.
She also assured that the governor would attend to the issue of this year’s pilgrimage, but that the number would not be large.
