Cleric Tasks Couples On Family Planning
A cleric, Rev. Fr.
Leonard Ojorgu of St Peters Catholic Church, Calabar, has advised couples to embrace family planning by having only the number of children they could cater for.
Ojorgu, who is the Assistant Parish Priest of the Church, gave the advice at the end of the 2015 Sunday Church service in Calabar.
The cleric said that the attitude of having unplanned number of children in the family without the resources to cater for them was inappropriate.
According to him, parents should weigh their resources in the face of the current economic challenges before deciding on the number of children to have.
“In the face of the current economic hardships, it is better to have one child and give him or her the best of parental upbringing than having many and allowing them to go wayward.
“Giving birth to a large number of children without the resources to cater for them increases the rate of social vices in the country because some of them will become nuisance to the society.
“As parents, if you do not raise up your children responsibly, God will not be happy with you.
“If you train your child in the right way, he or she will grow up with the fear of God and will contribute meaningfully to the development of the society,’’ Ojorgu said.
He admonished Christians to use the Christmas period to reconcile their differences with God, adding that Jesus was the reason for the celebration.
Ojorgu also advised young adults to eschew all forms of violence and contribute their quota to the development of the society.
