No Political Motive Behind NUP’s Protest In Bayelsa – Chairman
The Caretaker
Committee Chairman of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Bayelsa State chapter, Bodi Amarah has disclosed that there is no political under tone behind their peaceful protest recently following the non-payment of their four months pension arrears.
Amarah made this known in an interview with journalits along Mbiama/Yenagoa road in Bayelsa State during the protest.
He said the peaceful protest was to draw the attention of government to the plight of the pensioners in the state, pointing out that the peaceful march to Government House was for the government to come to their attention and settle the four months arrears owed pensioners that have meritoriously served the State for 35 years and retired honourably.
He said most of the Pensioners are dying of starvation and hunger while their dependants are suffering untold hardship, adding that their protest was mainly due to the aformentioned reasons and not poltically motivated.
“We are not protesting for disorder, but all we want from Bayelsa government is to pay us our four months arrears.
“We have served the state and retired after 35 years. Most of us do not have any other work doing for a livelihood.
“Our children’s school fees are from that stipend, so we want the state government to pay us”, the NUP boss said.
