The Association of
Movies Producers (AMP) Rivers State chapter is leaving no stone unturned as they prepare to play host to other producers who are expected to attend the 12th edition of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt on Saturday 11th June 2016.
The chairman of the Association in the state, Mr Fisim Lawson Young Arny, expressed hope that the event will not only attract constellation of stars in the entertainment world to Rivers State, but will help boost the image of the state as a movie-producing state and attract investment to the industry.
He congratulated the organizers of the event for choosing Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital as host of the continental event for the first time since its 12 years of existence. He recalled that the prestigious Pan African Reward System for motion pictures practitioners makes its debut in the garden city after it was successfully held for nine consecutive times in Bayelsa State, one in Abuja, Lagos and Port Elizabeth in South Africa. He described it as a great opportunity for movie practitioners in the South-South geo-political zone and the Nollywood clan.
Already the social media is awash with the information as nomination gala will hold on May 11th as part of the scheduled pre AMAA activities, while the rebranded Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) is the official broadcast partner for live telecast to over 100 million people across the globe. Other media partners signed to broadcast the event include: Africa Magic, OHTV Uk, SABC South Africa and ONTV.
In a statement jointly signed by the state Commissioner for culture & Tourism, Mrs Tonye Briggs-Oniyide (on behalf of the state governor, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and the founder of the awards organization, Ms Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, hosting the award this year will be the beginning of a partnership that will add immense value to the people of the state and the host city in particular as the government is determined to position Port Harcourt as a destination of choice in Nigeria and West Africa.
“We are repositioning Rivers State as a State ready for business to Nigerians and the rest of the world and our partnership with AMAA will become a veritable platform to attract tourists, global and Nigerian icons in business and the entertainment industry. We want to showcase Rivers State as a peaceful place where socio-economic activities thrive and also the hospitality of our people.
There is a huge economy around entertainment and show-business in Port Harcourt” Mrs Briggs said.
Popular businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana Chief Priest, has said that his relationship with singer Davido is beyond money and gossip.
He stated this in a recent interview with BBC Igbo.
“Davido is my friend. He is my in-law; he married Chioma who is from Imo State where I hail from.
“So the relationship I have with Davido is beyond money and gossip,” he said.
DAILY POST reports that Chief Priest disclosed via his Instagram page that his outfit for the wedding of the singer, Davido and his wife, Chioma, in Lagos on Tuesday cost seven million Naira.
The socialite recently appreciated Davido for not “discarding” Chioma.
He stated that the DMW boss has made Imo State proud by choosing to marry from the state.

In a series of other posts, she wrote: “Wow. When you’ve had enough, the fight is almost inevitable.

“I can’t wait for the day Africa is not a weapon fashioned against Africans. All of this amazing Black power and human resource, but the majority are not likely to thrive unless they run.”
Famous Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Davido was spotted among other top artistes at Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ tour concert in Atlanta, Georgia.
Asake’s performance at his sold-out show at the 17,000-capacity State Farm Arena in Atlanta began on August 16, 2024, and is set to run for 10 days.
In a trending video on social media, Davido appeared backstage with American rapper Quavo to support Asake during the live performance.
Other musicians in attendance included Nigerian hitmaker Zlatan and American rapper Russ Millions.
The Tide’s source reports that Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ tour is set to cover six U.S. cities, where he will headline notable venues including Madison Square Garden in New York, the Toyota Center in Houston, and the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
Asake’s tour comes just days after the release of his latest hit, ‘Lungu Boy,’ which features several superstars, including Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, Travis Scott and Brazilian singer Ludmilla.
‘Lungu Boy’ set a new record for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria, garnering 18.9 million streams in its opening week and breaking the previous record of 14.4 million streams held by Davido’s ‘Timeless.’
