Edo To Partner Albino Foundation On Sunscreen Lotions Provision
The Edo State Government says it will partner The Albino Foundation (TAF) in the provision of sunscreen lotions that will prevent sun ray attack on their skin.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr David Osifo, made this known on Monday in an interview with news in Benin.
Osifo said that going by the intensity of the sun rays, especially in Africa, Persons Living with Albinism (PWA) needed sun protection creams (sunscreen lotions) to protect their skins against cancer.
He said: “It is enormous that PWA has to spend N3,500 for a sun cream that will last only three weeks.
“We will discuss with Gov. Godwin Obaseki to see how we can assist in the provision of sunscreen creams.”
The commissioner decried the discrimination and stigmatisation against persons living with albinism.
Osifo said that the ministry would partner with the foundation on awareness creation and sensitisation.
He urged the foundation to sensitise its members on the need to fully integrate themselves into the society and contribute to the development of the state and country at large.
The commissioner said that the foundation’s earlier request for partnership in skin cancer intervention and eye care would be presented to the governor for consideration.
Osifor commended Mr Jake Epelle, the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, for the well thought out platform to make many albinos to actualise their potential.
