Tiwa Savage Wins 2018 Best African Act …Defeats Davido, Others
Tiwa Savage has emerged the first female artiste to win MTV Best African Act. The Nigerian Pop singer emerged the 2018 Best African Act at the MTV Europe music awards.
The singer who was at the venue fo the event in Bilbao, Spain on Sunday, clinched the award after beating fellow Nigerian singer, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido and other African Acts.
A few days ago, Tiwa Savage went viral on social media when she featured as a video vixen for the music video ‘Fever’ by Wizkid, The MTV award is an event that seeks to honour pop artistes.
Tiwa Savage’s Win: It came as a shock in certain quarters when her name was announced as the winner of the quite competitive category ahead of Davido who had earlier in the year picked up the BET Awards for Best International Act in June at the expense of Tiwa Savage who was also nominated in that category. There is no doubt that this win is one recognition fully deserved by the Mavin’s first lady for all her hard work and consistency on the scene especially in the year under review.
Janet Jackson’s Performance: The Legendary member of the Jackson family, Janet who also bagged the special award for Global Icon was in fine form on the night. During her set, Janet, dressed in a flowing outfit, rolled back the years with her barefooted grand entrance, bubbly dancesteps, flipping effortlessly through her intense choreography as she sang both old and new singles in ‘made for now’, ‘Rhythm Nation’, and the 2001 released anthem ‘All for you’.
Camilla Cabello Wins Big: Indeed, a star was born with the Cuban/American singer, Camilla Cabello who was the night’s biggest winner with four awards out of her six nominations. The ‘Havana’ singer bagged the Awards for Best Artist, Best Video, Best US Act and Best Song, emerging victorious over Ariana Grande who was nominated in five of the six categories that she was also nominated for.
A Night Of Celebration For Female Artistes: From the host of the event, Hailee Steinfield to the big winners Camilla CABELLO and Nicki Minaj, to Janet Jackson, Little Mix and Tiwa Savage, the 2018 edition of the MTV EMA’s celebrated the artistry and contributions of female artistes to the scene in a way like never before.
Bebe Rexha’s Army Of 100 Dancers: American singer, Bebe Rexha went all out with her set by enlisting an army of 100 dancers for the performance of her hit single ‘I’m a mess’ at the 2018 MTV EMAs. Bebe emerged from an onstage bathtub in an eye catching red outfit moving through the crowd of dancers who were dressed in priestly robes as she rendered her song. Her set ended with the singer being carried offstage by the dancers to a loud ovation from the audience.
Meanwhile, Wizkid has congratulated Tiwa Savage after she was announced as the winner of the Best African Act category at the 2018 MTV EMA Awards. Tiwa Savage emerged victorious ahead of Davido (Nigeria), Distraction Boyz(South Africa), Fally Ipupa(DRC), Nyashinnsia(Kenya) and Shekina( South Africa). She dedicated the award to her fans, her son Jamal and her record label boss, Don Jazzy. Wizkid posted a message on his Instagram page on Monday, November 5th with the caption, ‘ Yes, God bless ya, congrats’.

My Relationship With Davido Beyond Money, Gossip -Cubana Chief Priest
Popular businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana Chief Priest, has said that his relationship with singer Davido is beyond money and gossip.
He stated this in a recent interview with BBC Igbo.
“Davido is my friend. He is my in-law; he married Chioma who is from Imo State where I hail from.
“So the relationship I have with Davido is beyond money and gossip,” he said.
DAILY POST reports that Chief Priest disclosed via his Instagram page that his outfit for the wedding of the singer, Davido and his wife, Chioma, in Lagos on Tuesday cost seven million Naira.
The socialite recently appreciated Davido for not “discarding” Chioma.
He stated that the DMW boss has made Imo State proud by choosing to marry from the state.

Simi Joins Kenya’s Anti-Tax Protests
Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has lent her voice to the ongoing anti-tax hike protests in Kenya.
The Tide’s source reports that Kenyan youths are marching against tax hike in widespread demonstrations tagged ‘RejectFinanceBill2024.’
Five people were shot dead and dozens wounded after police clashed with protesters who stormed the parliament building in Nairobi on Tuesday, according to Amnesty Kenya.
Reacting via her X handle on Tuesday night, Simi declared her support for the demonstrators.
She stated that “it is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights.”
The singer wrote, “I stand with the people of Kenya. It is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights. Godspeed and Strength. [Hash tag] RejectFinanceBill2024.”
In a series of other posts, she wrote: “Wow. When you’ve had enough, the fight is almost inevitable.
“African leaders- have not you done enough?
“I can’t wait for the day Africa is not a weapon fashioned against Africans. All of this amazing Black power and human resource, but the majority are not likely to thrive unless they run.”

Davido, Zlatan, Others In Attendance At Asake’s Atlanta Concert
Famous Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Davido was spotted among other top artistes at Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ tour concert in Atlanta, Georgia.
Asake’s performance at his sold-out show at the 17,000-capacity State Farm Arena in Atlanta began on August 16, 2024, and is set to run for 10 days.
In a trending video on social media, Davido appeared backstage with American rapper Quavo to support Asake during the live performance.
Other musicians in attendance included Nigerian hitmaker Zlatan and American rapper Russ Millions.
The Tide’s source reports that Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ tour is set to cover six U.S. cities, where he will headline notable venues including Madison Square Garden in New York, the Toyota Center in Houston, and the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
Asake’s tour comes just days after the release of his latest hit, ‘Lungu Boy,’ which features several superstars, including Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, Travis Scott and Brazilian singer Ludmilla.
‘Lungu Boy’ set a new record for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria, garnering 18.9 million streams in its opening week and breaking the previous record of 14.4 million streams held by Davido’s ‘Timeless.’
