Taskforce Issues Quit Notice To Govt Estates’ Illegal Occupants
The Rivers State Task Force on Recovery of Government Property, has given a seven-day quit notice to illegal occupants of government estates at Orouje by Benin-Sangana Street, Mile 1, Diobu and Khana Street in D/Line, Port Harcourt.
The Chairman of the task force, Mr Rufus Godwins gave the notice last Friday when he led members of the task force to the two government estates.
Godwins who said that government was committed to ensuring that illegal occupants of government quarters were ejected, added that the task force was determined to establish government presence at the two estates, after erecting sign posts directing illegal occupants to “keep off”.
According to him, “We are establishing government presence effectively here today. We are erecting sign board showing that this is a Rivers State Government property”.
Godwins noted that the taskforce was aware that some people were laying claims to the properties, saying that they had even gone ahead to sell the properties.
He warned those who have already made payments to go and recover their money or loose it.
He said, “we heard that some people are even claiming to be owners of this place and they are selling already. Please if you have paid money to anybody for the purpose of buying this place, go and recover your money. Otherwise it is a dubious deal in which case you will loose your money completyely. This place belongs to the River State Government and we are going to put the signpost this morning to show everyone that this property belongs to the government”.
Godwins further said that after seven days the task force would return to recover the affected properties, adding that only those with valid government document could occupy government property.
“Within seven days, we would be back here to recover these properties from all of those that do not have papers or have paid to some wrong person or who forcefully occupied the place. Government does not build property for any body to just come and stay”, he said.
Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Housing, Mr Joseph Amiofiri, said that the task force was in possession of a list of those with genuine allocation, adding, “never again will it be that government will build quarters, either for serving civil servants or estates for buyers and then persons who do not have occupation will be the ones occupying”
