Police Rescue Abducted Woman, Arrest Suspected Kidnappers In Delta
Delta State Police Command yesterday rescued a 33-year-old woman, Mrs Akpezi Okpidi from her abductors.
Two suspected kidnappers were also arrested in connection with the abduction of the mother of two, The Tide source reveals.
It was learnt that a member of the kidnap gang ran away and abandoned the victim when he sensed danger from policemen in Burutu Local Government Area.
The woman, who is also a trader was eventually rescued at the kidnappers’ hideout without payment of any ransom.
It would be recalled that Mrs Okpidi was abducted from Noble Street, off Stadium road in Ughelli Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
When contacted for comments, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the report in a text message she sent to our correspondent in Warri.
In another development, one person died while four others were injured when a building collapsed in Asaba, Delta State.
The building collapsed after a thunderstorm at the weekend.
The Tide gathered that the building located behind Police Officers Mess, in Okwe, Oshimili South area of the state collapsed around 5pm.
The building was under construction when it collapsed.
Workers were at the site when the incident happened.
The Delta State Emergency Management Agency Officer, Mr Daneid Okpor, at the scene of the incident, said the building collapsed as a result of structural defect.
He said, “We observed that there was a thunderstorm and that made the building to quickly collapse. The thunderstorm could be a part of it but the structural work is very poor”.
