Groups Task N’Delta Govs On Regional Security Outfit
Two Niger Delta based groups, Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta (PATOND) and the Niger Delta Indigenous People’s Network (NDIPN) have called on Governors in the region to form joint regional security outfit, to stem the wave of insecurity.
This was contained in a communique jointly issued by the groups at the end of their 16th National congress meeting in Benin City, Edo State.
The groups said the situation in the country had underscored the need for governors and stakeholders in the region to rise up and form a security outfit with a view to securing region’s land and waterways.
The communique which was signed by Owo Udo, National Chairman of Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta, Daniel Wilson, National Coordinator of Niger Delta Indigenous People’s Network and Apostle John Amaowoh, also lamented the rate of infrastructural decay in the region and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to redouble effort by providing adequate fund for the development of the Niger Delta and other parts of the country.
It stated that the absence of basic human needs were capable of triggering insecurity as in the Niger Delta.
It also condemned the spate of violence, Kidnapping, banditry and other forms of insecurity in the country and appealed to the youths to desist from acts that will bring shame to their families and communities.
It urged youths to engage in activities that will bring development to the region.
It commended an indigenous investment company, Elano Investment Limited for its stride in the area of human capital development and urged for it to be sustained.
It said the body would not support any act of violence or intimidation of citizens by any group or individual as violence has not benefited anyone but rather brings destruction and underdevelopment.
