RSG Begins Reconstruction Of PH Airport Protocol Lounge
The Rivers State Government-owned Protocol/VIP Lounge at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa is currently undergoing demolition process for the rebuilding of the lounge.
The Tide, on a visit to the lounge site last Friday, observed that all the fittings, including sanitary wares, had been removed, while the entire building had been de-roofed.
Efforts to speak with the contractor handling the project were not successful, but one of his aides who pleaded anonymity told The Tide that the new lounge which is expected to be upgraded from a downstairs to a one-storey building, would be delivered within a maximum period of six months.
Meanwhile, some airport users and stakeholders have expressed happiness over the steps taken by the Rivers State Government towards rebuilding the VIP/Protocol lounge at the airport.
In her reaction, a staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Beatrice Okonu, described the project as a welcome development, saying it will go a long way in adding beauty to the aesthetics of the airport.
According to her, the reconstruction of the lounge is long overdue, given the calibre of people that lodge there while on transit.
She pointed out that the rebuilding of the lounge would yield the desired benefits in terms of modernity and facilities.
Also speaking, one of the conventional security personnel working at the airport, who would not want his name published, hailed the efforts of the Rivers State Government at rebuilding the protocol lounge.
He, however, urged the contractor handling the project to expedite action and ensure that the project is delivered before the scheduled time.
According to him, a three-month period is reasonable enough to deliver the project if resources are available to execute it.
It would be recalled that the Rivers State Government had promised to rebuild the lounge following the reopening of the airport for operations after the Covid-19 lockdown.
